Mates for today be regulars at Team Jo-Jo Fishing Curriculum Sessions, at our last get together Big Charlie indicate he ready to make a trip, so we planned one today for him.

Big Rudy called wanted to know if me was going out and did me need a mate, told him had a mate but he welcome to come and join us.

So today we had (2) mates on board the Bay Flat Sr, which was ideal as we have (2) voice activated power poles, one mate for each pole.

1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (This criteria not a factor, it was just enough to keep gnats off us, perfect it be)

2 MOVING WATER: (Tail ending of falling tide, feel to around 9:30 AM, then quickly turns and started to come in, perfect timing to catch changing pf tide)

3 WATER CALRITY: (This criteria was a little off, 3 plus in Like John, and a 3 minus in Four Horse, we did not stay long in four horse, one thing current to strong and the other did not like clarity of water)

4 HOLDING FISH:  (On Team Jo-JO’s map spot # 51C (100)t, & 51A (33)t)

5 PATIENTS: (Lost it at spot #57A, but we did not stay long, once we changed spot numbers, it was on, on, on, on)

·         (133) Silverwonders

·         (1) Puppy Drum

·         (1) Freshwater cat

·         (1) Extra fishing poles, Big Charlie mastered this

·         (2) Tangled lines, not bad for 3 fishing a strong current

·         (4) Popped lines , BIG fish we be in BIG BOY locker room at times

·         (1/2 bushel of grass)

·         Being on the water with 2 of the best fisherpersons me know, that be Bi Rudy & Big  Charlie

·         Having a day like today, so many memories created / experienced, it one of the books / diary

·         Lunch at Penny’s Café, great fried chicken had we.

·         Lessons learned:

§  Water clarity in Lake John 3 plus, in Four Horse it be a minus 3

§  Tight lining technique / presentation is in full force, and me be loving it.

§  Silverwonders staging up at drop offs & channel edges

§  Silverwonders feeding, some cough up BIG shrimps we pulled them in

§  Departing at 4:30 AM was perfect timing to be in spot at daylight

§  ½ oz. jig heads worked well today

§  Tandem rigs worked well today too

§  Matrix Shad Lemon Drop lure of the day

§  Using a Zip Tie on your lure to keep it in jig head, me never seen this before, but we convinced Big Charlie to take zip tie, & swivel off, after this he caught bunch of fish.

o   Spec –A-GO-GO use to have a rubber ring that you would slide over lure to keep it on jig head, anyone remember this lure??????

§  Last but not least, me never thought 1” would make that much of a difference, but we caught a lot of 12” to 12 ¾” fish today, good side we educated a lot of them what not to hit,

·         Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Big Charlie was a little handicap by the rig he be using, but once we convince him to get rid of the swivels, snaps, and the zip tie around his lure, (Don’t know about you fisherpersons, but me never seen a live shrimp and / or minnow with a zip tie around their neck) he got on the board very quickly. He managed some dinks, and ever had some (NMR) BIG girls to his credit, but combine all his efforts today me think he fell a little short for the honors today.

Big Rudy commanded the cork division, and lead in the dink category, took him awhile to get the feel of tight lining. Things where a little slow so me suggested he try a tandem rig, BINGO, he found the BIG BOY locker room for us. It was none stop action, all the way to he hooked a Submarine, (aka big A Drum) and the real fight was on. As he was fighting the fish, Big Charlie & Oneofthepack was slinging in (NMR’s) over the gunnel. After 10 minutes or so he had reeled enough line to see fish, but it was not the fish. What we saw was a float, (thought he had a crab trap) as we continued to survey the situation we found that the float, (plastic bottle) had filled with water had sank. Float had a sturdy line, (Big Rudy caught line not fish) tide to it, which terminated at a 120 # mono line, which had a hugh hook on it. And that big hook was buried in the mouth of a 20# plus drum. We cut the line at the mouth of drum and turned it lose, happy day for all involved. Big Rudy efforts for the day was little short for honors today.

Oneofthepack was in his elements, TIGHT LINING, this be me strike zone for sure, and it was agreed, (2 bull reds, 2 submarines and many NMR’s Silverwodners brought aboard by he) by all aboard that Oneofthepack was fisherperson of the day.

SUGGESTIONS:

Things looking good down in Delacroix, sharping up on your tight lining skills, and ½ oz. jig heads are a plus.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

You know what’s more important than knowing the exact spot to catch fish, knowing the exact spots to not catch fish on a given / present day  conditions !!!

Q&A:

What are your favorite and least favorite fishing chores?

TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:

Booked this week have fist mates lined up, along with a doctor or two to take up some days, but I will be a fishing week for sure, until then:

Good Fishing
