Kansas crew vs. Delacroix

TEAM JO-JO:

Crew, (Big Ron, Big Luke, Big Noha, & Big Dayton)  for today, Wednesday (11-27-24) all be from up north, Kansas down here for their annual visit to fish out of the Bay Flat Sr down in our Disney World known as Delacroix Island.

Big Ron had texted me a few weeks ago looking to schedule a trip, we picked a couple of days that we both could make it, today was the best shot. Big Ron wanted to know how many I can fish out of the Bay Flat Sr, told him (4) counting me. Huston we have a problem, he has his (3) sons with him, need to squeeze him in, took a while for me to respond, but me said lest try it.

SIGNS:

·         Sleep was hard to come by, physicked up having to put crew on fish tomorrow. Don’t know how guides manage the stress!

·         Got confused on allotted time required to be on time, (re: LakeP fishing vs Delacroix fishing)  for trip me was an hour late for meet up with crew. This not me, me either 15 minutes early or on time.

·         NO wildlife sightings along Hwy 11 or 90, not a good sign

·         Boats all over Hwy, gas stations, and boat launches it is a fishing world this week for sure

·         Check point Alpha water level in canal at junction down 10-12”

·         Check point Bravo, slack tide in Reggio canal.

·         Someone had a bad day, seen white truck n canal along Delacroix Hwy, it was way out in middle of canal, must have been mover fast to get that far out.

·         Reached the home of the Bay Flat Sr, she be looking pretty in her slings, me made quick of loading her up y meself

·         Me looked in tackle for motor, no sing of it, now in a panic, dome all out to see where key might be, no luck!!!!!!!!!!!Not a happy camper me be.

·         Then me remembered me left key in motor last time out

·         Yamaha Dream Machine fired right up

·         Off to Lionel to pic up  crew, get some go juice and some dead shrimp.

·         Crew of 4 waiting for me, they loaded up all their gear, filed up and we ready to head out

·         BIG question where to go, asked Big Luke to pick 3 between 1-3. Me assigned 1 to Lake John & 3 to spot # 21, Big Luke said 2, pick another says me, Big Luke says 3, so off to spot # 21 we go for our fun day on water.

·      ONEOFTHEPACK’S REPERTOIRE OF TECHNIQUES / STRATEGIES

·         Be safe.

·         Have fun.

·         This is me daily therapy for ALL me aliments.

·         Re-introduce crew to:

§  All that Delacroix has to offer

§  Team Jo-Jo spot # 21

§  Tight line technique

§  Popping cork technique

§  Matrix shad Lemon drop lure

§  Shallow water fishing

§  Deep water fishing

§  Channel & drop off fishing

·         Bring home some fishes for crew to eat

·         Find a spot  # with the seven fundamentals / criteria of catching:

1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (Wind not a factor, it was perfect for our day today.)

2 MOVING WATER: (Slack at first, then started to fall, then came in, saw little crabs swimming with current so knew we had a true tide, worked for us today.)

3 WATER CALRITY: (Not to me liking, after fishing Lake P with a 7 plus, and water in Delacroix at 2 plus, it be a BIG difference, but once again it worked for us.)

4 HOLDING FISH:  (Team Jo-Jo spot # 21, and spot # 6)

5 PATIENCES: (3rd cast me caught a Silverwonder with popping cork, not much slow action, we were on, on, on, on, on for most of the day. Dead shrimp gave us plenty action, lures very slow after spot # 21)

6 SKILL: (Tight lining, and drowning shrimp on bottom)

7 LUCKS: (Picking spot # 21 to start our day and choosing the protocol / route that goes along with it for today, proved to be a good choice. 1 caught fish, 2 not many boats in our area we be fishing.)

·      Oneofthepack’s repertoire of Techniques / presentations:

·         Anchor up cast & retrieve slowly along the bottom, with a twitch every now and then, tight lining…………………………………(28)t should have had a lot more, took crew awhile to get the feel)

·         Dead bait……Caught all the bottom feeders, 3/8 oz. jig head with shrimp strung on them

·      Oneofthepack ‘S repertOIRE of LURE DU JOUR:

·         Matrix Shad Lemon Drop, matched up with H&H 3/8 oz. round white head w/gold hook……………DID all the Silverwonders damages

AREAS / SPOTS / NUMBERS ON THE MAP FISHED:

Team Jo-Jo’s spots #17 (1)t, 21 (28)t, 25, 2r, Pablo secret spot 1r, all other fish at spot # 6. Called it around 1:40, crew wanted to stay , (fish still biting) but me had a meet up at 4:30 in Slidell.

OUR REWARDS:

·         Lived to fish another day.

·         (29) Silverwonders, 12 Miniwonders

·         (2) Redwarriors, 1 Ratwarrior

·         (2) Redwarriors missed at boat

·         (19) Puppy Drums

·         (4) Submarines, aka BIG A_s Drum 24# plus

·         (2) Croakers

·         (5) Crabs

·         (2) Stung Rays

·         (7) Freshwater cats

·         (15) Hard heads

·         (8) Popped lines

·         (4) Tangled lines, not bad for 5 in boat

·         Excellent sandwich made int eh boat, thanks Big Luke me needed that.

·         Saw 3-4 alligators

·         Saw many bands of Teal

·         Had a couple of PB’s today re: weight of fish

·         Being on the water with (4) of the best fisherperson me know.

·         Fish god smiled on us today, she led the way to the honey holes for us,

·         Lessons learned:

§  Me need to get up an hour earlier, me was (1) hour late today, this not me, me always on time are early.

§  I was in a panic, could not find the boat key, looked all over dumped tackle box, still no key, then we remembered it was in the boat left it there last time out.

§  Fishing 5 out of Bay Flat Sr was not that bad, no one hurt, and minimum tackle ups

§  Big Ron called asked how much dead shrimp we need , told him, get 3 #’, could have used more, this was bait of this day.

§  Used a very scientific method on where to start our day, asked Luke to pick a number from 1-3. I assigned 1 to Lake John, and 3 to Psot # 21, he picked 2, asked that he pick again,, he picked 3, so off to spot # 21 to start our day.

§  Kansas crew can fish and more important they can catch.

§  Crew will be back

·         Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Oneofthepack eat up the Silverwonders with tight lining, that be me sole contribution to today catch, no enough for honors.

Big Noah had his share of Silverwonders, freshwater cats, hard heads,  and puppy drum, his efforts were very commendable, and gets a “E” for effort, but he too fell a little short for honors today.

Big Luke was all over the Bay Flat Sr, me think he be a claim jumper, a fish caught he be in that spot. Big Luke managed not to hook anybody which was a Big Plus, makes a mean sandwich, caught some Silverwonders, puppy drums,  freshwater cats, hard heads, and even a crab, however efforts where a little off for today’s honors.

Big Dayton was very slow out the gate, catching a couple of Silverwonders, but at spot # 6 he came to life, catching puppy drum after puppy drum, sting rays, Redwarrior,  freshwater cats, hard heads, crab, but what got him contention was his (2) submarines he caught, fought them well and got both in the Bay Flat Sr. But even with all this effort there was still one more fisherperson that had their say in today’s honors / trip.

Big Ron, (DAD) had his day to be told, he be all over the Silverwonders, dominated the puppy drum division, for the most part stayed away from the catfish, stopped fishing to help his sons when needed. Caught whispering in Big Noah’s ear on how to do it, (Then the claims of favorite son came out) landed biggest Redwarrior of the day, and even had two BIG Submarines to his credit. Gave Big Ron extra points for raising (5) good sons, (I am sure mom had some help with that) Big Ron be fisherperson of the day, as he was last year too.

SUGGESTIONS:

Fishing is the best therapy in the world, just do it!!!!!!!!

Have dead shrimp on board for slow periods.

Get out to Lake P trestles and get you one of them trophy trout.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

“There are no regrets in fishing  life. Just lessons.”

& of course, memories by the ice chest too!

Q&A:

  • What do you call a fish with a lot of debts? A loan shark!

TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:

Clean slate, nothing booked, but next week will start all over again, fishing & catching with crew/s, stay tune until then:

Good Fishing
