Lake P slow action day, fun it be

TEAM JO-JO:

🎯 Today’s Target:

Big Buddy’s favorite haunt:

🔱 The Legendary 5-Mile Reef – a.k.a. The Trestles(A long, straight, fish-holding magnet that has delivered joy, heartbreak, and stringers full of Silverwonders to many — especially the late, great Eastofmrgo, R.I.P.)

🛠️ Tactical Loadout:

  • Lake P Troll rigs: rigged & ready.

  • No leader! (lesson learned — too many BIG girls lost flipping with too much line out)

  • ¾ oz. jig heads for tightlining deep along the pilings

  • Power Pro for strength & sensitivity

  • Wind: watched closely

  • Water clarity: praying for that magical 6-7+ rating.

  • Bay Flat Jr: light, stealthy, ready for action

🧭 Why the Trestles?

Because when Delacroix muds out and the marsh goes quiet, Lake P's trestles can still whisper sweet nothings to the wise — especially those who know the structure, understand the tidal rhythm, and believe in the Lake P Troll technique.

And who better to carry on Eastofmrgo’s legacy of tight-lining glory than Big Rudy & Oneofthepack?

🕣 Next Report Coming Soon:

Will the trestles light up?Will the Silverwonders show? Will Lake P deliver redemption?

📍Stay tuned, crew. Team Jo-Jo doesn’t go quietly when the fish play hard to get.

SIGNS:

·         Friday trip humbled us down in Delacroix, ran around (60) plus miles caught 4-5 fish small ones at that. Need some action so Lake P came to mind.

·         Weekend just relaxing ones, rested up for future trips

·         Up at 4:30 AM for our 5:30 AM meet up at the point.

·         Picked up some go juice for Bay Flat Jr & Yamaha Nightmare Machine

·         Big Rudy was waiting for me to show up, quick load up of gear into Bay Flat Jr

·         Already had 25 plus boats launched and 5-6 waiting to launch, going to be crowded out on water, hope we can find an area to Lake P  troll

·         Big Rudy backed me down into water, primed Yamaha Nightmare Machine, pulled, pulled & pulled, finally started

·         Huston we have a problem, motor would not continue to run, acting like no fuel getting to engine

·         Check out fuel line pumped it up no problem, started her again same thing run for a second and shut down.

·         Me about to give up, but decide to pull fuel hose on engine, make sure line not kinked, and or choked off some kind of way. Open cap in tank to relieve any pressure and/or vacuum on fuel system. Pulled (2) times, she started up and we were on our way. Guess it was a vapor lock in fuel system; it ran well all day.

CONDITIONS:

·          Perfect

·         Wind, S.S.E. 6-7, S 10-12, S.S.E.  14-18, S. 16-20 mph, steady she blew all day

·         Water status / conditions: light to heavy chops, a lot of 3-4 ‘ rollers, lot of water came into Bay Flat Jr

·         Sky, partly cloudy, & sunny at times

·         Temp, mild, warm, hot, to hot

·         Water level, up 8-10”

·         Caernarvon Outfall:        496     ft3/s

·         Tide, tail den of falling start of rising, raised all day

·         Peak tide, 0:21  L  .03’

·         Peak tide,  13:25  H  1-02’

·      ONEOFTHEPACK’S REPERTOIRE OF TECHNIQUES / STRATEGIES

·         Be safe.

·         Have fun.

·         This is me daily therapy for ALL me aliments.

·         Put some run time on the Bay Flat Jr and the Yamaha Nightmare Machine

·         Gather Intel for future trips, and to share with fisherperson, (on Facebook) to help assist them in their choice of areas to fish, lures to use and presentation of same to the elusive Silverwonders.

·         Catch what catch can.

·         Learn what learn can.

·         Play dodge the boats

·         Practice our Lake P Troll technique / presentation

·         Bring some fish home for Big John and his family, we did not have much for him on Friday trip

·         Find a spot  # with the seven fundamentals / criteria of catching:

1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (This criterion was our only one challenge for the day, strong wind made it difficult to keep Bay Flat Jr on correct track along trestles & Hay 11 badge)

2 MOVING WATER: (Had some but not much strength / current to it, alter in morning it did pushing our trolling rig away from trestle on an incoming  tide.)

3 WATER CALRITY: (No problem here, a 7 plus, nice and green, clean, dark looking water, perfect it be.)

4 HOLDING FISH:  (East side of Hwy II bridge from parish line north to north draw bridge)

5 PATIENCES: (took 1 ½ hours to catch out first fish and that was a flounder, slow action day for sure, did catch a double flounders & a double Silverwonders during our trolling journey)

6 SKILL: (Lake P Troll technique / presentation)

7 LUCKS: (Able to weave in and out 100 plus boats to do our trolling specialty along trestles and Hwy 11 bridge)

·         Tandem rig, ¼ oz. round H&H jig head with gold hook, matched up with Matrix Shad Lemon Drop …..Did not try.

AREAS / SPOTS / NUMBERS ON THE MAP FISHED:

Lake P , trestles mile maker 174 north, Hwy 11 bridge parish line north. Trolled wherever we could find a block or so to troll, had a lot of boats need to play Russin roulette with boats & pilings this day

OUR REWARDS:

·         Lived too fish another day.

·         (8) Silverwonders, 1 Miniwonder

·         (12) Flounders

·         (3) Hardheads

·         (11) hang ups, lost (4) Lake P Troll rigs

·         (1) Rattle trap with 15 feet of S.S. wire, S.S. wire crew from Mississippi troll with that line, get lure down to bottom quick, and current does not move it as much, you can keep it really close to pilings.

·         Got me snicker bars.

·         Got to see every fishing boat known to man, must have had well over 100 plus boast out and about.

·         Lessons learned:

§  Hard to  find a place to troll with 100 plus boats out & about.

§  Trolled Hwy 11 bridge not many boats along that

§  Hwy 11 bridge holding some Silverwonders & Flounders

§  Me think the bites in Lake P might be over, we trolled hard to catch what we caught.

·         Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

It was a slow start, Big Rudy also had a slow start, caught a double flounder, managed a few Silverwonders, provided the snicker bars, but me thing he fell a little short for honors today.

Oneofthepack got a jump on the catching, dominated catfish decision, caught (5) flounders, biggest flounder, biggest Silverwonder, and lead in the Silverwonder category too, so me feel me got fisherperson of the day today, and it is about time it happens.

SUGGESTIONS:

Boating activity should drop once weekend / holiday over, get out there and practice your Lake P Troll technique / presentation.

Trolling unlike jigging, cast / retrieve, you can cover a lot more area, locate the strike faster, and if you want can set up on strike zone, once identified by trolling, and fish them tight lining.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

"If all politicians fished instead of spoke publicly, we would be at peace with the world."

Q&A:

Plan your ideal vacation. What’s on the fishing itinerary?

TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:

Big Charlie Tuesday trip cancelled concerning weather, Big Bob Wednesday trip cancelled concerned about weather. Me concerned about not having a first mate for trips. Need to find one, until then:

Good Fishing
