Edumacated we be

Team Jo-Jo Fishing Curriculum Session 11 of 2024 was a memorable and productive gathering, with a solid crew of 18 fisherpersons in attendance. The meeting took place at Fatty’s Seafood, a favorite venue that provided excellent service, food, and a meeting room just for us. The session was full of rich discussions, practical tips, and plenty of shared fishing stories that left everyone feeling excited for what’s to come this fall. Here's a breakdown of the session and key highlights:

In-Depth Study of Fishing Hot Spots:

We began the session with a focused discussion on some of the most promising fishing spots in our region. These included:

  • Delacroix:

    • Reviewed Team Jo-Jo spots in detail:

      • Spot # 17 narrated our Thursday trip, (11-14-24) went over how we set up and what our reward was for fishing this area, see attach picture re: point Fienne.

      • Spot # 51K narrated our Monday (11-11-24) went over location, spots to fish in that area, and how we set up to catch our Silverwonders that day, see attach picture.

      • Spot # 58BL narrated our Monday trip, (10-21-24) went over spots to fish in that area, boat locations / position , strike zones, and how to catch Silverwonders see attach picture.

  • Bayou Bievenue:

    • ICW talked about how & when, (md December to mid-May)  to fish this area, utilizing The Lake P Troll technique / method.

    • The wall, talked about fishing the various lock systems, and the success Big Pablo had with the BIG girls last Monday.

    • Fishing the rocks along the MRGO, and when, (needs to be colder) with use of jerk baits to fish for BIG girls.

    • The Pen action, Redwarriors should be on, on, on as soon as we get low, low water and cold, cold weather, very easy place to fish and catch Redwarriors, lures and live shrimp work well, ask Mr. Tony at Fisherman’s friend when you buy your live bait where to set up at in The Pen.

  • Lake P:

    • Seems the BIG girls are still MRI, but have a feeling it will not be long before that action will, kick in.

    • Looking forward to utilizing Lake P Troll along trestles.

  • We had 6-7 conversation going on at one time, me know that had a lot exchanges of who, what, where, when, why, & how of the art of Fishing & Catching going on.

Special Presentations and Contributions:

  • Big Rudy gave a presentation o how he rigs his popping cork, line size for main & leader, size jig head he likes and why he likes them, also covered his favorite lure slat Strong 3” Power Prawn. He went over the various actions / presentations he uses as he is working his popping cork.

  • See attach picture of Power Prawn, and the grip tight jig head, we bought this to share with crew . Grips type jig holds lures on a lot better than the others out there.

  • Oneofthepack & Bay Flat Sr. picked up our new windshield today, now all me need to do is install it.

Group Discussions and Learning:

After the presentations, the crew broke off into smaller groups for focused discussions. This was a great opportunity for everyone to:

  • Share past fishing experiences: The crew swapped stories of recent trips, hot spots, and lessons learned while reviewing these locations on their phones and mapping out future outings.

  • Talk favorite lures, techniques, and presentations: Each group had a chance to discuss their go-to lures for Silverwonders and Redwarriors. The top choices ranged from soft plastics to live bait, with everyone giving tips on how to rig and present the bait for optimal success. Techniques like cork popping, tight-lining, and trolling were all part of the conversation, with each angler contributing their own style.

Big Pablo, Big Ronnie, & Big Penny MIA for meeting, but they had good excuses they be out fishing & catching, hope to get some good repost of their adventures.

Report from the Field:

  • Bay Flat Sr limited out, (crew of 3) on last (2) trips out of Delacroix

  • Big Pablo solo trip to Bayou Bienvenue had some Big girls in his boa, and a mix of Redwarriors, Drum, & Sheepshead.

  • Catching a few along trestles

Shoutout to Fatty’s Seafood:

A huge thanks goes out to Fatty’s Seafood for hosting our session. The staff provided great service and allowed us to use the meeting room for our discussions. We’re grateful for their hospitality, and it’s a favorite spot of ours not just for the food but for being a comfortable, welcoming place where we can hold our curriculum sessions.

Fall Fishing Outlook:

Cooler months coming, action should pick up in all areas, trolling & tight ling deep holes should be the order of the day.

One thing that everyone agreed on during the session was the exciting prospects that fall fishing holds. With the cooler temperatures starting to roll in, we expect that catching will become easier and more abundant. The fall season brings active feeding periods for both Silverwonders and Redwarriors, and we’re all looking forward to filling our coolers and freezers with fish. The best catching is right around the corner, and it was clear that everyone left the session feeling psyched up and ready to hit the water.

The session lasted until 2 PM, after which the crew dispersed, energized and ready for their next fishing journeys. Everyone is eager to put their newfound knowledge and shared intel into practice, aiming to create new memories with family, friends, and fellow crew members.

Final Thoughts:

  • We had (4) new crew show up for meeting, think they learned a lot and shared a lot, hope we can continue to grow crew.

Good Fishing,

Team Jo-Jo & Oneofthepack
