Delacroix memory

Big Ray responded to our last video from past Monday trip he was reminiscing about our trip 11-3-15, following was Team Jo-Jo post and attach pictures from that trip.                     

 TEAM JO-JO

Frist mate for today aboard the Bay flat Sr. was Big Ray, we had been trying to hook up for a couple of months, (Big Ray schedule 28 on & 28 off) guess today was the day all the moons lined up and we got to make a trip to our Disney World known as Delacroix Island.

SIGNS:

·         Oneofthepack over slept had to double time all prep and drive3 to Waffle House in  Chalmette TO MET Big Ray for 4:00 AM, (perfect timing to be out and about for daylight)

·         No wildlife sightings along Hwy 11 or 90 (this not good)

·         Quick breakfast, not much just enough to hold me through the morning

·         Nice relaxing ride to boat slip

·         Gave speech caution crossing street, and boat deck has opening between dock an boat

·         Bay Flat Sr. high in the air, let her down slowly, turned the key, cold not hear it runn8ing, LOVBE IT for sure

·         Pit stop at Lionel’s for some ice and go juice

·         Off to spot # 61 B

CONDITIONS:

·         Perfect

·         N. wind 8-10 mph

·         Partly cloudy, partly sunny, hot when sun hot

·         Water temp???? broken depth finder

·         Water clarity on a scale of 1-7 was a 4 minus

·         Tide rising, stopped, slacked started to fall (perfect change of water movement)

·         Water level 17” up

·         Many / few boats out, Oak River & Skippy had the most

TECHNIQUE / STRATIGY:

·         Concentrate on spot # 61 B

·         Anchor up cast & retrieve 85% of fish

·         Corks 10%

·         Oak River Troll 5%, just wanted to show Big Rau how to do it, so we did it for a few drift.

·         Run around and try other spot numbers to see condition and activity

·         Give Big Ray the tour of zone 1 & 2

·         Have  fun day on the water with new fishing partner from rodnreel.com

LURE DU JOUR:

·         Matrix Shad Lemon Drop , matched up with H&H  ¼ oz. round white head w/gold hook, came out the gate fast, & sweet, now ever Big Ray was using the H&H purple beetle, it did not take long to convince me it was going to be a H&H purple beetle matched up with H&H ¼. Round white head w/gold kind of morning.

·         My H&H purple beetle, matched up with H&H ¼ oz. round white head with gold hook, caught60 Silverwonders, before I had to change the tail.

·         Explain to Big Ray really do not like to change the tail, me feel the fish like it when it is full of slime, blood from the fish we caught. They get all beat up, I just keep string it back on in other areas.

·         Big Ray summed up what I was trying to say about our beetles, he showed me his, all beat, cut, smashed, and said this one has a lot of character.

AREAS /SPOTS/NUMBERS ON THE MAP FISHED:

Spot # 61 B (101) t, (7:40 AM) Big Ray wanted to fish reds, told him I’m not too good at that but we could try, off we went. Spot # 61, 60 (1)t, (7) reds, 61B (1)t, 20 (14)t, 2, stopped fishing at 11:35 PM turned the Bay Flat Sr. north or a quick smooth ride back the slip.

OUR REWARD:

·         Lived to fish another day

·         No food or drink

·         Got to meet Big Ray for the first time thanks to rodnreel.com, big Ray one of the best new fisherperson I know

·         Big Ray not sure what to do with all the fish, he indicated he would leak 25 trout and 2 reds, he would clean them, but he need a place, (Big Ray from Texas) to do this.

·         No problem says I, we can stop at Gulf Outlet Mariner, they have a clean station, went inside and asked Penny if would be ok to clean fish, sure says she go ahead.

·         Did not want to leave Big Ray with the task to clean the fish, so I broke out my knives, and gave him a hand.

·         I had clean one red, and there was another to be clean, but the fish gods were with me, up walk Farther Luke, he admiring our catch and we started a conversation. Nice catch says he, can I please have the fish caucus. Light goes off in my head, can you clean them, yes says he, and clean it and you can have the caucus. Farther Luke clean that red there was no meat left on the bones, it was the best cleaning have ever seen.

·         Another light goes off in my head, (my catch was going to go to Big Andrew) ask Oneofthepack, do you have an ice chest, yes says hem says I take all the remaining  fish if you like.

·         Made a new friend, gave Farther my number and ask him to call me and we can make a trip, all it will cost is a hand shake and a smile, he was smiling when we left the cleaning station at Gulf Outlet Mariner.

·         Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Big Ray was / is  a natural, he has been on the water before, mastered the Oak River Troll, cast & retrieve ,looked like he done it all his life, fishing a current line in Oak River was a little challenge, but he managed to catch on. Oneofthepack knows for sure Big Ray will take home the honors our next trip.

SUGGESTIONS:

Have to believe all your honey holes are full of Silverwonders, they are all over the place, and all you need to do is be in the honey holes.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

The fisherperson who goes fishing gets something more than the fishes one catches.
