Team Jo-Jo Fishing Session lunch & Learn

Team Jo-Jo Fishing Curriculum Session 10 of 2024 was a memorable and productive gathering, with a solid crew of 13 fisherpersons in attendance. The meeting took place at Fatty’s Seafood, a favorite venue that provided excellent service, food, and a meeting room just for us. The session was full of rich discussions, practical tips, and plenty of shared fishing stories that left everyone feeling excited for what’s to come this fall. Here's a breakdown of the session and key highlights:

In-Depth Study of Fishing Hot Spots:

We began the session with a focused discussion on some of the most promising fishing spots in our region. These included:

  • Saint Lake Catherine: A long-time favorite for many of our crew, known for its calm waters and potential for both Silverwonders and Redwarriors.

  • Bay June Point: This spot offers deep water and a variety of fish species, making it a versatile option for trolling or tight lining.

  • Sawmill Pass and Saint Catherine Pass: Key areas for anglers looking for strong tidal movement, which attracts baitfish and larger predators.

  • Unknown Pass: A more secluded area that requires some navigation but offers great rewards for those willing to venture off the beaten path.

  • Old Pearl River: A historical fishing site that has consistently produced good catches, especially in cooler weather.

  • Cypress Tree Fishing Spot: A favorite for those targeting Redwarriors, with lots of structure to attract the fish.

  • Little Lake and Polecat Bend: Both locations are known for holding large schools of fish during transitional seasons like fall, making them prime spots for the next few weeks.

Special Presentations and Contributions:

  • Petite Denise: She impressed the group by showing us a step-by-step photo guide on how to safely remove a hook from your finger. Her calm explanation and narrative were helpful, giving everyone the confidence to handle this common fishing mishap.

  • Big Tommy: Generously shared his "honey holes" in the Saint Catherine Lake area, giving the crew insights into where to fish for the best results. His detailed descriptions of structure and bait presentation gave us all a clear plan for our next trips.

  • Big John: Stole the spotlight with a photo of his recent trip to Shell Beach, where he and a friend limited out on some impressive (NMR) Silverwonders. He shared the exact spot in the back levee canal where they found success and mentioned that trolling the Causeway should start producing results soon. His intel on this was invaluable, as many of us look forward to trying our luck there in the coming weeks.

Group Discussions and Learning:

After the presentations, the crew broke off into smaller groups for focused discussions. This was a great opportunity for everyone to:

  • Share past fishing experiences: The crew swapped stories of recent trips, hot spots, and lessons learned while reviewing these locations on their phones and mapping out future outings.

  • Talk favorite lures, techniques, and presentations: Each group had a chance to discuss their go-to lures for Silverwonders and Redwarriors. The top choices ranged from soft plastics to live bait, with everyone giving tips on how to rig and present the bait for optimal success. Techniques like cork popping, tight-lining, and trolling were all part of the conversation, with each angler contributing their own style.

Report from the Field – Big Pablo & Big T-Doc:

Unfortunately, Big Pablo and Big T-Doc couldn’t make it to the session, but they had a good reason! They were down at Bayou Bienvenue, where they managed to catch a solid haul:

  • 11  (NMR) Silverwonders

  • 2 Redwarriors

  • 1 Drum

  • 1 Bass It was speculated that live shrimp played a big role in their success, as it’s been particularly effective in that area recently.

Shoutout to Fatty’s Seafood:

A huge thanks goes out to Fatty’s Seafood for hosting our session. The staff provided great service and allowed us to use the meeting room for our discussions. We’re grateful for their hospitality, and it’s a favorite spot of ours not just for the food but for being a comfortable, welcoming place where we can hold our curriculum sessions.

Fall Fishing Outlook:

One thing that everyone agreed on during the session was the exciting prospects that fall fishing holds. With the cooler temperatures starting to roll in, we expect that catching will become easier and more abundant. The fall season brings active feeding periods for both Silverwonders and Redwarriors, and we’re all looking forward to filling our coolers and freezers with fish. The best catching is right around the corner, and it was clear that everyone left the session feeling psyched up and ready to hit the water.

The session lasted until 1 PM, after which the crew dispersed, energized and ready for their next fishing journeys. Everyone is eager to put their newfound knowledge and shared intel into practice, aiming to create new memories with family, friends, and fellow crew members.

Final Thoughts:

Fishing is always great, but as always, catching can be a little more of a challenge. However, with the combined experience and insights shared during this session, we all feel that the best days of catching are just ahead of us. As the fall season sets in, we expect to see big results and a lot of happy, well-fed families!

Good Fishing,

Team Jo-Jo & Oneofthepack
