Team Jo-Jo’s Fishing Curriculum Session #3 Recap

Crew in Attendance: 23+ members, including two first-time participants.

Open Discussion:

  • Big T-Doc’s Contributions:

    • Generously gave away a 15-foot graphite push pole.

    • Brought up the need for extra fishing gear (rods, reels, tackle, tackle boxes) for WishToFish.org, a group dedicated to introducing young anglers to the sport.

      • If you have any gear to donate, contact T-Doc at (504-329-7972) to arrange pickup, or bring it to the next meeting.

  • Big Rudy’s Demonstrations:

    • Rigging a sliding cork for optimal presentation.

    • Setting up a Lake P Troll rig to maximize success in those waters.

  • Big Tony Cypress’ Fishing Story & CCA Banquet:

    • Shared an exciting fishing experience.

    • Mentioned the upcoming Northshore CCA Banquet, encouraging crew members to attend and expand their fishing knowledge.

  • Big Mike’s Fog Story (Lake P):

    • Recounted a harrowing experience of getting lost in the fog.

    • Highlighted the importance of making safe decisions on the water.

Review of Live Bait Techniques & Presentations:

  • Five Methods Covered:

    1. Free Line

    2. Free Line with Swivel

    3. Carolina Rig

    4. Texas Rig

    5. Sliding Corks

  • Weight Selection for Live Bait Fishing:

  • Determined by current speed and strength.

  • Team Jo-Jo’s Motto: “Less is Best” when it comes to sinker weight.

Breakout Discussions:

  • Crew members split into smaller groups to share valuable fishing intel, locations, techniques, and personal experiences.

This session was packed with great insights and camaraderie! We hope to see everyone at the next meeting to continue learning, sharing, and improving our fishing game.
