Lunch & Learn 8-17-24

Team Jo-Jo Fishing Curriculum Session Report - August 17, 2024

________________________________________

Event Overview:

We had a fantastic turnout with over 20 crew members at our gathering on August 17, 2024. The session was filled with valuable exchanges on fishing techniques, gear, and recent experiences on the water. Here's a summary of the key points discussed:

________________________________________

Fishing Tackle Smorgasbord:

• Success: The Smorgasbord was a hit, resembling a school of fish in a feeding frenzy over a honey hole. Crew members brought various tackle, rods, reels, and more to share, donate, and exchange.

• Future Plans: Due to its success, we’re considering making the Tackle Smorgasbord a regular feature. Members are encouraged to bring any gear they'd like to contribute to the communal table at future gatherings.

Fishing Trip Recaps:

• Big Rudy's Reports: Big Rudy shared insights from two recent trips—one with Oneofthepack and another with Big Pablo. Both trips were productive, yielding a significant number of Silverwonders, though most were Miniwonders.

• Ongoing Segment: This segment, where crew members discuss their latest fishing experiences, was highly beneficial. We plan to include it in each meeting to inspire and guide others on where to fish and how to catch.

Q&A Sessions:

• Interactive Learning: Crew members paired off for multiple Q&A sessions, covering a wide range of fishing and catching topics. The conversations were too numerous to list but were highly engaging and informative.

Guest Speaker - Captain Dudley:

• Topic: Captain Dudley addressed the proposed Lake Maurepas Freshwater Diversion, which could impact Lake Maurepas (LM), Lake Pontchartrain (LP), and Lake Borgne (LB).

• Concerns: He expressed concerns that the diversion could turn these areas into freshwater lakes, driving out fish, crabs, and shrimp.

• Awareness: Despite the gravity of this issue, only one attendee out of 70 at the combined CCA and Team Jo-Jo meeting had heard of the diversion plan before. This highlights the need for greater awareness.

• Resources: An article and video of Captain Dudley's talk were shared for further review. We encourage everyone to read and watch to understand the potential impact.

Lunch and Ongoing Discussions:

• Networking: After the formal session, we enjoyed a great lunch, where discussions continued. Crew members kept sharing and learning from each other, further deepening their knowledge of fishing and catching.

Meeting Conclusion:

• Adjournment: The meeting wrapped up around 1:20 PM, with everyone leaving more informed and better prepared for their next fishing adventure.

• Objective: Our goal remains to share fishing knowledge to improve everyone's ability to purchase the right gear, navigate fishing spots, and, most importantly, enhance their skills in catching.

Questions and Participation:

• Remote Inquiries: If you couldn't attend but have questions, please submit them to us. We'll review them at the next meeting and provide coordinated feedback.
