TEAM JO-JO:
CCA Anglers Night Out – Marsh & Bayou Edition
Big Rudy, Big Wayne, and Oneofthepack rolled into Marsh & Bayou for the CCA Anglers Night Out, and it turned into one of those evenings that stick with you. The house was packed — me best guess, 70+ fisherpersons swapping tales, sipping cold ones, and leaning in to soak up some fishing intel.
The lineup didn’t disappoint. Two seasoned guides stepped up with solid presentations, breaking down techniques, locations, and seasonal patterns that had everyone scribbling mental notes for their next trip. Then CT Williams grabbed the mic and lit into the subject of pogie boats and their impact on Louisiana’s fishery inventory. He didn’t sugarcoat it, either — laid it out plain and raw, the kind of talk that makes you sit back and think about the future of our waters.
Another speaker went deep into the world of tournament red fishing. Turns out, it’s a whole lot more than just chunking a lure at a red and calling it a day. Strategy, scouting, reading tides, teamwork, and even boat positioning — it’s practically chess on the water. Eye-opener for plenty in the crowd.
By the time the raffle rolled around, the energy was still buzzing, and wouldn’t you know , Big Wayne’s number got pulled. Walked out with a prize and a grin that said, winner, winner, redfish dinner. The seminar wrapped around 8:30, and the three of us left with heads full of new ideas, already plotting our next water mission.
The Lake Borgne Redwarrior Mission – The SetupPlans were already in motion: in the morning, Big Rudy and Oneofthepack would be chasing down Redwarriors (aka redfish) on the fertile grounds of Lake Borgne. With no live shrimp to lean on, it was going to be a lure-only mission — pure skill, patience, and a little luck.
The Bay Avid matched up with 150 HP Yamaha Dream Machine arsenal was locked and loaded:
Popping corks – for working the shallows and drawing fish up with that pop sound that reds can’t resist.
Jerk baits – deadly for covering water, mimicking a wounded baitfish.
Topwater plugs – for those heart-stopping blowups when a bronze brute smashes the lure on the surface.
Spinner baits – tried and true, flashing and thumping their way through grass beds and dirty water to call in the big boys.
The rods? Locked, rigged, and ready: Oneofthepack with 4 poles, each one prepped with a different offering. Big Rudy, never one to travel light, had 6 rods rigged and ready — enough firepower to adjust on the fly without wasting time retying. Between the two of us, it looked like a mobile tackle shop heading for Borgne.
The plan was simple: drift, pole, or troll through likely Redwarrior haunts — cuts, drains, shorelines, and broken marsh edges — and cycle through the spread of lures to find what pattern they wanted. Reds in Lake Borgne can be picky some days, but once you unlock the code, it’s game on.

· Find a spot # with the seven fundamentals / criteria of catching:
1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (Wind was perfect pushed s right along rocks at a perfect speed, GPS trolling motor catching easy)
2 MOVING WATER: (Tail end of rising, we had a long slack tide, but t started to fall some, but it was to late at that time for morning bites.)
3 WATER CALRITY: ( A 5 just looked good, would ,love to have this clarity down in our Disney World known as Delacroix Island)
4 HOLDING FISH: (Rocks in Lake B)
5 PATIENCES: (Took a little wile for fist one, we had a slack tide, it was a slow day for sure, but we learned a lot, so it was time well spent, no patients needed today)
6 SKILL: (Casting & retrieving, switching up lures back & forth, spinnerbaits did the most damage.)
7 LUCKS: (Me not getting skunked again!)

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:
Easy call, Big Rudy caught all fish except me caught 1 Redwarrior, it was like me was not even trying, but I fished hard just could not make it happen. Big Rud fisherperson of the day AGAIN!!!!!
SUGGESTIONS:
Chasing Redwarriors, think live shrimp, me know Big Pablo would have had his limit by 6:30 AM with live shrimp.
Lures work, but so will you work to catch few Redwarriors.
PONDER OF THE DAY:
"A fisherman's skill is born from moments of stillness and patterns of movement."
Q&A:
What impact do you think the Pogy boats are having on Louisiana fishing inventor / industry & future stock? Word is Pogy industry a $419 million industry, employing 2700 + -
TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:
Heading out in AM Friday with Big Jeff & Big Allen, (both co-workers at MCC (53 plus years) we be chasing Redwarriors aboard Bay Flat Sr down in Delacroix, stay tune, until then:
Good Fishing
