Hopedale Journey

TEAM JO-JO:

Friday trip 9-20-24

Bay Flat Sr is still docked at Big T-Doc’s place, and I’ve been busy taking care of a few maintenance tasks before I bring her back down to Delacroix. With the storms still lurking around, I’m holding off until the weather clears and it’s completely safe to haul her down. It’s been a waiting game, but safety comes first.

Then I got a call from Big Ron, who wanted to check in on the status of Bay Flat Sr and see if I was ready for a fishing trip. Being the good guy he is, he offered to take me out whenever I was ready. I figured, why wait? So, I threw out the idea of going tomorrow, which was Friday. Turns out, Big Ron already had a trip planned with Big Rudy and one of his friends. But instead of going with them, he said he’d stay home so I could go with Rudy and his crew. That’s Big Ron for you—always putting others first.

I told him to stick with his plan and go ahead, but Big Ron decided to call Big Rudy and back out anyway. He mentioned he wasn’t feeling particularly lucky for this trip and thought I’d enjoy it more. So here we are, with Big Rudy stepping up as captain for the day.

We’re cruising aboard Rudy's sleek 22-foot Avid, powered by a 150hp Yamaha Dream Machine—a boat that’s perfect for a day out in the marsh. Big Carlwym is serving as the first mate, and I’m taking a step back this time, just playing the role of deckhand. It’s a different dynamic from what I’m used to with Bay Flat Sr, but I’m excited to see what Big Rudy has in store for us. With a solid crew and great conditions ahead, I’m hoping we’ll land some Silverwonders and maybe even a few Redwarriors.

·      ONEOFTHEPACK’S REPERTOIRE OF TECHNIQUES / STRATEGIES

·         Be safe.

·         Have fun.

·         This is my daily therapy for ALL my aliments.

·         Put some run time on the Bay Flat Sr and the Yamaha Dream Machine

·         Gather Intel for future trips, and to share with fisherperson, (on Facebook) to help assist them in their choice of areas to fish, lures to use and presentation of same to the elusive Silverwonders.

·         Catch what catch can.

·         Learn what learn can.

·         Find a spot  # with the seven fundamentals / criteria of catching:

1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (Not much wind to contend with, perfect day for fishing with lures)

2 MOVING WATER: (Falling tide all day, pouring out at first as the day went along it slowed down some)

3 WATER CALRITY: (This criterion was our challenge for day it was a 2 plus, lost lure 2” below surface)

                   4 HOLDING FISH:  (Team Jo-Jo spot # R31 (10)t, R33 (12)t)

5 PATIENCES: (Second cast Big Carlwym brought a Miniwonder, action was steady, but we had to keep moving to find some.)

6 SKILL: (Popping cork, me had a snap on, Big Rudy & Big Carlwym had for horsemen corks, they be making a lot of noise, notice in video the difference of noise by snap on vs. four horsemen)

7 LUCKS: (Big Ronnie gave up his spot in boat so me could go)

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Oneofthepack had his moments, including 6 Silverwonders and 1 Ratworrier, slow day for me, but we got a “E” for effort, but no honors today.

Big Rudy be our captain for the day, he got on a roll later in the morning, many Silverwonders to his credit even had  a couple for Redwarriors to his list of catchables, he to fell a little short for the honors today.

Big Carlwym, (me first time ever fishing with him) first Silverwonder on board, matter fact he had the 3 first Silverwonders on board, caught many more, lead in the Redwarrior division too, and had his share of catfish, based on fish count, size & weight, Big Carlwym was fisherperson of the day today.

SUGGESTIONS:

One more storm to be concerned with in the gulf, after that it should be smooth sailing into fall fishing which is right around the corner. Me in search for a new windshield for Bay Flat Sr, she be by Big T-Doc abode, as soon as storm threats over me bring her back down to Delacroix.

Take this time to gear up with your favorite fishing gear, lures,  tackle, stop by Big Gus net & tackle shop on Hwy 433 Slidell, Big Gus has a large inventory of nets, & tackle, and may other fishing accessories that you need to excel in the art of fishing & catching. And don’t forget to stock up on the Lake P troll squids, tails & heads cause this season too is coming up soon.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

Me am not fishless of my circumstances; Me am fishless of my decisions!

Q&A:

What one lure do you think that everyone should fish with?

TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:

Bay Flat Sr still in dry dock, Bay Flat Jr on standby, as with Oneofthepack all (3) gearing up for what we think is gong to be a great fall fishing season.

Nothing planned, but planning for future trips, me will start filling up me “fish card” soon, stay tune if you wood like to jump on board the Bay Flat Sr trip down to our Disney World known as Delacroix Island.

Until then:

Good Fishing
