Fun in Lake P w/ Lake P Troll Rig

TEAM JO-JO:

An Impromptu Adventure on Lake P

Me had no plans for a trip today, what with a doctor’s appointment at the VA on the schedule. But as fate would have it, driving across the Hwy 11 bridge at 8 AM sent a familiar chill through perfect weather, glassy water, and all the makings of a prime day for fishing. The kind of day that calls to a fisherman’s soul.

On the way back home, me returned Big Rudy’s call, just a routine chat—or so me thought. One thing led to another, and before long, we weren’t just talking about fishing tomorrow—we had hatched a full-blown, impromptu trip for today!

The plan was set. We’d meet up at The Pointe for high noon, load up, and set off on Bay Flat Sr. to work the Lake P Troll along the trestles. Silverwonders beware—we were coming.

·      We had grilled / nuked spiral ham for dinner, along with some good French bread.

·      Me early for meet up, prepped Bay Flat Jr for launching, and clean up me rods & reels.

·      Big Rudy backed the Bay Flat Jr down.

·      ½ of pull Yamaha Nightmare Machined fired right up, now that be a sign.

·      Off to trestles to start our fun afternoon trip of doing Lake P Troll .

·      Put some run time on the Bay Flat Jr and the Yamaha Nightmare Machine

·      Gather Intel for future trips, and to share with fisherperson, (on Facebook) to help assist them in their choice of areas to fish, lures to use and presentation of same to the elusive Silverwonders.

·      Catch what catch can.

·      Learn what learn can.

·      See if we could time the bites with the change of tide.

·      See if big girls still wanted to play doge the Lake P Troll rig.

·      Verify clarity of water

·      Bring some fish for Petite Yana.

·      Find a spot  # with the seven fundamentals / criteria of catching:

1 WIND AT YOUR BACK: (This criterion is not a factor; it kept us cool as the sun shined down on us.

2 MOVING WATER: (Falling at first, went slack, (bites stopped) we did not see it start to come in.)

3 WATER CALRITY: (Minus 2, fisherpersons me would never fish that clarity, never, but that feeling has changed big time after our last 3 trips)

4 HOLDING FISH:  (Hwy 11 bridge)

5 PATIENCES: (Took all of 5 minuets for Big Rudy to bring in a 3# plus (NMR) Silverwonder, it was on, on, on for 40 – 55 minuets or so.)

6 SKILL: (Lake P troll technique / presentation)

7 LUCKS: (When we got to our start they had a boat already in the troll zone, so we stopped ½ block from him and started our troll, BINGO, BINGO, BINGO, we would never had tried the section to troll had it not be for boat in our strike zone.)

·    Oneofthepack’s repertoire of Techniques / presentations:

·      Lake P Troll (LPT)…………….All fish caught with this technique.

·    Oneofthepack ‘S repertOIRE of LURE DU JOUR:

Hwy 11 bridge, Lake P!!!!

·      Calm waters

·      Light breeze

·      Action

·      Being on the water with one of the best fisherpersons me know

·      Lessons learned:

§  Big  girls still out there

§  Dirty water big girls like

§  Trying to match go time with tide change works, it did today.

§  Silverwonders in different locations today, they were stacked up in one area 200-300 feet long.

§  When they are on, they are on!

§  When they stop, they stop!

·      Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Me got to take it while the taken is good, it was close but me edged big Rudy by Flounder & catfish, me take honors today!!!

We both caught:

§  Both missed 2 (NMR) at boat.

§  3-2 on Miniwonders, my way

§  Me dominated flounder division.

§  Me dominated Catfish division.

§  NMR’s 6-5 my way.

SUGGESTIONS:

The troller that was already out told us he had been out for 2 ours plus, trolled from north shore to south shore not a bite. We trolled pass each other, looked like he was heading in, then he saw Big Rudy pull in that BIG NMR Silverwonders, and me follow up with his big brother. Troller became interested on what we dong, he set up behind us and follow our patch for a while, we still pulling them in.

We turned around to run pass that strike zone aging, with same results, Troller yells out how you all rigged up, Big Rudy yells back Lake P Troll Rig.

Big Rudy tried to explain to him, but it was not happening, so me asked Big Rudy to reel in, me did too, and we went over by his boat and showed him how we rigged up, We also gave him the video, (Oneofthepack Lake P Troll rig)  we did on how to rig it up.

Should have just told him to go to Gus’s Net & Tackle on Hwy 433, Gus has a sample of Lake P Troll rig, plus he has all the components needed to make them up.

Do not let dirty water strop you.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

“The fishing is a great relief for me. When I’m out there’s no cell phone ringing. I’m out there fishing with Loons. I’m in the middle of God’s country catching some of fish. I just absolutely love it.”

Q&A:

What is your take on fishing dirty water?
