Delacroix journey

TEAM JO-JO:

Team Jo-Jo:

Big Rudy is back from vacation and has been off the water with no fishing for over two weeks. Knowing it was time to get him back out there, today (Wednesday) is the perfect opportunity to hit the water for sure. Unfortunately, Big Don is on the injured reserve list and will be partaking in a procedure at one of our local fix'em places. So, it will be a duo trip to our Disney World known as Delacroix Island in search of the elusive Silverwonders, Redwarriors, and any other fish species that want to challenge us with all the lures we have to offer.

Preparation

Checking the Weather and Tid

To ensure a safe and productive trip, we’ll start by checking the weather forecast and tide charts. Favorable weather conditions are crucial for a successful fishing trip, and knowing the tide schedule helps us plan the best times to fish. We'll aim to hit the water during peak tide movements when fish are most active.

Gear Up

Preparation is key, so we'll make sure all our fishing gear is in top shape. This includes:

  • Rods and Reels: Check that they are functioning correctly.

  • Tackle and Lures: A variety of lures to match different fish preferences and conditions.

  • Safety Equipment: Life jackets, a first aid kit, and a VHF radio are essential for safety on the water.

  • Refreshments: Packing enough food and drinks to keep us hydrated and energized throughout the trip.

Fishing Strategy

Target Species

Our primary targets for the day will be Silverwonders (Speckled Trout) and Redwarriors (Redfish). These species are known for their fight and make for a thrilling catch. However, we’ll also be prepared to catch any other species that might take the bait.

Fishing Techniques

We’ll use a mix of techniques to maximize our chances:

  • Tight Lining Lures: This method involves letting the lure sink to the bottom and retrieving it slowly to entice bottom-dwelling fish.

  • Cork Techniques: Floating lures near the surface can attract different fish species that feed higher up.

By varying our techniques, we can adapt to the fish's behavior and increase our chances of a successful catch.

Locations

Delacroix Island is known for its productive fishing spots. We’ll start with our well-known hotspots and keep an eye out for areas with good water clarity and signs of baitfish. Moving around and exploring different spots can help us find where the fish are biting.

On the Water

Spot Exploration

We’ll be ready to move between different spots if the fish aren’t biting in one area. Observing signs of fish activity, like birds diving or fish jumping, will guide us to productive locations.

Staying Safe

Safety is our top priority. We’ll keep an eye on the weather for any changes and be prepared to head back if conditions worsen. Maintaining communication with each other will ensure we coordinate our efforts and stay safe on the water.

Post-Trip

Catch Management

After a successful day on the water, we’ll properly store and ice our catch to keep the fish fresh. Cleaning and filleting the fish once back onshore will prepare them for a delicious meal.

Debrief

Discussing what worked and what didn’t will help us improve future trips. Sharing the adventure and any catches with Big Don and our other fishing buddies will keep the camaraderie strong within Team Jo-Jo.

Additional Tips

  • Take Photos and Videos: Capturing the trip’s highlights will create lasting memories and allow us to share our adventure with others.

  • Log the Trip: Recording details such as weather conditions, water clarity, and lure effectiveness will be valuable for future reference and planning.

With Big Rudy back and ready to go, today promises to be a fantastic fishing adventure at Delacroix Island. Here’s to a day filled with great catches, good company, and unforgettable experiences. Tight lines!

Thanks for offering, but I think it best for all for me to pass on trip, don’t want ruin trip for all by me being a sick & a bother.

AREAS / SPOTS / NUMBERS ON THE MAP FISHED:

Spot # 64,  64A,  B,  63,  61C,  18F, G, C, 18A, 17C (1)r, 2A, 14, 15, 46, 47 , 49, 49A, 50, 51A, B, 51K, 51N, called it a round 9:50 AM

·         Made a stop at Ben’s Pizza, got me a fried potato sandwich with mayo & gravy, Big Rudy went for the Muffaletta, very good it be

·         Quick trip bites off, water dirty, stop fishing around 9:50 AM

·         Lessons learned:

§  Water dirty from Grand Lake to Four Horse, a 2 minus ion a scale of 1-7, not good this be

§  Team Jo-Jo spot # 64 on map has the best-looking clarity water it be a 3 minus

§  Lure fishing may be over, may need dead or live bait to attract them and get them to bite

§  Routes we normally take still open from inside to outside, aka Team J-Jo zones, 1, 2, 3, 4, & 5.

§  Need Big Pablo to be with us, he always has live shrimp,  helps let us know if they any fish in areas we are fishing, they might not  like lures, but will hit live or dead bait.

·         Best fishing trip of my life, until the next one.

FISHERPERSON OF THE DAY:

Easy call today, Oneofthepack got skunked, Big Rudy caught and missed all fish today he be fisherperson of the day he and his Power Prawn.

On way home we got a call from Big Ron, (he b up north  in Indiana) he be telling us Silverwonders caught by the trestles, but Big Rudy & Oneofthepack no better, water in Lake P like Mississippi River at best. Big Ron be back in September, me know  he will be Hopedale bound for sure.

SUGGESTIONS:

Don’t do what we did today!!!!!!!

Concentrate efforts on Lake Robin side of Bayou Terre Aux Boeufs, and don’t for get live & dead shrimp.

Give Grand Lagoon a try too.

PONDER OF THE DAY:

Isn’t it nice to think that tomorrow is a new fishing day with no mistakes in it yet?

Q&A:

"It is necessary... for a fisherperson to go away by solo... to sit on a rock... and ask, 'Who am I, where have I been, and where am I going?'"

TEAM JO-JO’S future stratagem:

Planned / cancelled trip to Freemason, Saturday trip with Big Jeff he has to work, next plan to plan a trip for Saturday. May be Big Pablo or Big Tom, until then:

Good Fishing

Team Jo-Jo & Oneofthepack
